what is my weakness

The Tips No One Tells You

When you Google, “answers for interview questions”, there will be a hundred posts with too many tips. The bad news is that most of them repeat the same boring stuff all over again. The worst news is that half these tips are not even right; they just mislead you and ask you to BS which will jeopardize your chances of getting the job.

So, what should you essentially do? Read on to unlock some of the real tips which will help you impress your hiring manager with your presence of mind.

  1. Don’t oversell yourself. As someone who has a lot of knowledge in the field of marketing, I am talking from experience when you sell yourself a bit too much; you end up portraying a wrong image of yours. Your HR is not a fool. He can see how easily you are lying to sell yourself. You will be immediately removed from the selection list.

  2. Don’t act over-smart. Do not take your HR to be a fool. He has been appointed as an HR because he is a pro at understanding people and analyzing their skills. When you sugarcoat your strength as a weakness he will understand you are another regular applicant with a generalized answer. Of course, this too cuts down your chances of selection.

This brings us to the question as to what should you really do?

The answer lies in being honest and smart at the same time. You need to look back and actually perform your SWOT analysis.

Note down everything on a piece of paper and try and see the weakness which can

  1. Either actually be improved

  2. Or doesn’t really impacts your chances of selection much

You can choose any of the weakness which falls in the above category.

Is It Safe To Be Honest?

I am not asking you to bare every possible weakness you have and talk about all the times you had to bite the dust. This is why I mentioned being honest and smart. One thing without the other could be lethal.

If you are still a little unsure as to how to answer what is your greatest weakness, why not go through the detailed post by Deniz again? He surely knows the best tips which you have to follow. He is the creator of The Career Mastery and works with PwC Consulting.
